TimbeRoof Post and Beam artisans, specially trained in post and beam construction, create our timber frame components in a climate-controlled factory in Waynesboro, VA. Both post-and-beam and timber framing are centuries-old construction methods that combine great flexibility of design with the warm and natural beauty of exposed timbers. Because the method is so adaptable, frames can be built to fit almost any design. Once the frames are completed, they can be immediately shipped out to the client’s construction site for quick and easy assembly. The advantages of timber framing are endless when compared to stick built homes, the most common method used in residential home building today. In stick framing, small pieces of wood are used, insulation is placed between these sticks (or studs), and then everything is covered with drywall or paneling. The craftsmanship of the carpenters and the wood itself are sadly hidden. In post-and-beam construction, larger pieces of wood (we typically use 6"x8" and 6"x12" timbers) are handcrafted to fit together and are exposed to view. To create the shell of the structure, the outer wood paneling is placed on top of the beams and the insulation wraps the roof, creating a more airtight seal and an indisputably more impressive appearance. |
