The International Code Council recently voted to add the requirement of residential fire sprinkler systems for all new homes built starting in 2011. It is estimated that this requirement will add about $1.50 per sq.ft. to the cost of the construction of the new home. It is possible that with a lack of certified installers that the cost may rise much higher initially due the demand for installers. If you are planning to build a home soon and don't find the installation of a sprinkler system important then be sure to plan to build before 2011. |

the Future! A frequent problem we run into with our solar hot water systems is finding a way to bring the lines from the roof to the basement. So when you are planning your new home be sure to make a list of any future items you might wish to add to your home. If there is something like solar panels or maybe a woodstove that you may wish to add in the future, be sure to find out what may be needed for installation. If a chase built into the home will make installation easier have it built into the design so it can be added later. |
